He died on a ski trip at Kokanee Lake, British Columbia.
The avalanche swept him into the lake.
His body was never recovered.

His death may have accelerated his father’s own passing.
He attended Dalhousie University.
He was classmates with Sophie Gregoire, who would later became Justin’s wife.
His aunt Betsy, a horticulturalist, discovered a new rose variety and later named it after Michel.
He was also survived by his other brother Sasha.
His mother publicly expressed gratitude that her son’s final resting spot was a beautiful location.
