Why he might be annoying
He calls games with a slight Brooklyn accent.
During broadcasts, he often sucks up to veteran athletes.
He is extremely gullible, often buying in to the hype and manufactured aura that athletes with good PR usually get.
Why he might not be annoying
He is remembered for his famous call, 'Do you believe in miracles?,' as Team USA defeated the USSR in Olympic ice hockey (1980).
As Game 3 of the 1989 World Series, from San Francisco, was about to begin, he was in the middle of the pre-game broadcast when the ground started shaking. He quipped, on the air, 'Tell you what, we're having an Earth ...' just getting cut off trying to say 'earthquake' as the TV signal went dead, as a result of the quake (October 17, 1989).
He was nominated for an Emmy for his coverage during the earthquake.
He graduated Arizona State University.
He opposes the F.C.C.'s attempts to tighten censorship rules, saying that there are much more important things to worry about than trying to protect people from every little thing.
For his first broadcasting job, he got to work in Hawaii.
He's had to put up with the pompous Dan Dierdorf, the vapid Dennis Miller, and the goofy John Madden.
He interrupted Peter Jennings to explain that Jennings was part of a prank call during the O.J. Bronco chase. He understood the prankster's use of the term Baba Booey as an association of being a Howard Stern fan.
