Why he might be annoying
A subsequent search of their vehicle—after Phillips surrendered with a concealed weapon—found two semi-automatic rifles, two handguns, over 1,600 rounds of 7.62 mm rifle ammunition, over 1,200 rounds of 9 mm and .45 caliber handgun ammunition, radio scanners, smoke bombs, improvised explosive devices, body armor vests, and three different California license plates.
They were released from prison after serving more than 100 days.
They robbed a Bank of America in nearby San Fernando and stole $1.5 million.
Because they had more powerful weapons, it took longer for officers to bring the two robbers down.
After the officers overtook the two bandits, Phillips, Jr. committed suicide.
Why he might not be annoying
He and Matasareanu were the only casualties from the shootout.
The shootout was a lesson to equipping the LAPD with better weapons.
