Actor
    (January 18, 1943- )
Born in Chipping Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom
Portrayed Rene Belloq in ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ (1981), Gustav Riebmann in ‘Falcon Crest’ (1984-85), and Dr. Charles Corday in ER (1998-2002)
Appeared in the movies ‘The Dogs of War’ (1980), ‘Death of a Princess’ (TV movie, 1980), ‘Shanghai Surprise’ (1985), ‘Without a Clue’ (1988), ‘Aces: Iron Eagle III’ (1992), ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie’ (1995), ‘Morlang’ (2001), ‘Hot Fuzz’ (2007), ‘Henry V’ (TV movie, 2012), and ‘High Strung’ (2016)
In ‘Raiders,’ in the segment when Indiana Jones threatens to blow up the Ark, a fly lands on Freeman’s face and apparently gets swallowed while he’s talking. (Actually, editors cut the frames in which the insect flew off.)
He was initially happy with being typecast as villains after ‘Raiders,’ since it meant steady work, until, ‘I got fed up because it became a train of playing Nazis. One year I played the commandant of Auschwitz and the commandant of Birkenau in the same year, and I thought, 'What's my career becoming? Am I waiting to play Hitler? I don't think so.’’
He said he had never heard of the Power Rangers until he was cast as Ivan Ooze in ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie.’
He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
He and his wife, actress Maggie Scott, founded the charity UK Friends of Healing Focus, which provides support for the Ugandan Healing Focus Orphanage Center.
He said, ‘I think the trick for British actors when they work in Hollywood is not to take it all too seriously.’
