The Resume

    (August 6, 1923-August 3, 1986)
    Born in Babylon, New York
    Birth name was William Breitbard
Disc jockey for WNEW in New York City (1944-47,1953-86)

Why he might be annoying:

He dropped out of college after one year.
Regular listeners claimed they could hear him absent-mindedly jingling the change in his pants pockets.
He claimed 50s teens weren’t really fans of rock music – they were just being misled by payola-taking DJs like Alan Freed.
He copied Steve Allen’s schtick of mocking rock songs by pompously reading the lyrics.

Why he might not be annoying:

He gave Frank Sinatra the nickname ‘Chairman of the Board.’
Sinatra said, ‘He was the best friend I ever had. He was the best friend anybody could have had.’
He hosted the New York segments of Jerry Lewis’ Labor Day Telethons.
He was named Man of the Year by the New York Friars Club (1984).
