He moved to England to become a car salesman (1960's).
He wrote for 'The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show,' which lasted six weeks (1968).
He was the straight man in a comedy duo, with Hart Pomerantz. They parted under unfriendly circumstances (1972).
He originally quit 'Saturday Night Live' in 1980, the entire cast and most writers went with him.
He produced the flop 'The New Show' for NBC (1984).

He made most of the 'Not Ready For Prime Time Players' famous (John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray).'

As 'Saturday Night Live,' was on its last legs, he returned and got it back on track.
