Why she might be annoying
She is divorced.
She had a shrill yelling voice which came in handy for 'Superman' and horror movies.
She and George Reeves (Superman) would sneak off in the middle of the daily shoots to have a few drinks. However they would never get too tipsy to complete their work.
Why she might not be annoying
During the filming of 'A Night of Terror,' she was to be punched in the face by Frank Richards, unfortunately he connected and she was knocked out (1951).
During the filming of 'Superman,' she helped the grips by carrying some of the equipment.
She was unconcerned with star billing on 'Superman,' but co-actor George Reeves insisted she get co-starring credits.
Her agent had committed her to a pilot (that failed) so she was unable to continue her role on 'Superman.'
The producers offered to double her salary, but she felt she had to honor her other commitment and thus was replaced by Noel Neill as Lois Lane.
In the Movie 'Superman and the Mole Men' which later became a two part episode, Coates played a blonde and Neill played Lois Lane.
Although Phyllis tried to be friends, Noel Neill had a contract clause that said she would not appear in public with Phyllis.
