Why he might be annoying:

He missed the 1942 US Championship due to appendictis and lost the 1943 final because of food poisoning.
As ATP director, he organized a players' boycott of Wimbledon (1973).
He observed, 'There's a lot of kids around who think I'm some kind of brand name, who don't have any idea a kid named Jack Kramer carried a racquet before he became one.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He missed the 1944-45 US Championships because he was serving with the Coast Guard in the Pacific.
His pro debut against Bobby Riggs drew 15,114 fans to Madison Square Gardens despite one of the worst snowstorms in New York City history (December 26, 1947).
He was a leading figure in creating open tennis, allowing professionals to compete in Wimbledon and other Grand Slam events.
