Why he might be annoying:

He became a federal judge in Texas after only one year of experience as a lawyer.
He ardently supported the Vietnam War.
As a vice president candidate, he was more presidential and experienced than the candidate for president, Michael Dukakis.
In fact, he received one West Virginian presidential electoral vote in the election.
Though serving in the Senate for nearly 30 years, he is most remembered for delivering a grievous blow to Dan Quayle's ego during the vice presidential debates.
He looked like Mr. Rogers.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a moderate Democrat that supported abortion rights.
He flew over 200 bombing missions over Europe during World War II.
As Treasury Secretary, he urged President Clinton to reduce the deficit by $500 billion, spurring the creation of millions of jobs.
He suffered a stroke that left him in a wheelchair (1998).
After Dan Quayle compared himself to John F. Kennedy during the debates, he famously ruined Quayle's credibility by calmly saying, 'Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.'
The 'Senator Lloyd Bentsen Highway' in Texas is named in his honor.
He provided the voice of William Henry Harrison for a PBS miniseries on American presidents.
He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Clinton (1999).
