Why they might be annoying:

    Most band members smoke.
Most of the members have an abundance of tattoos.
Their albums since 'TNT' are over-produced.
Many Tortoise songs have been remixed.
Journalists have incessantly defined their music as 'math rock' or 'post rock.'
'Millions Now Living Will Never Die' is taken from a title of the 1925 Mormon text.
Their song 'Tin Cans and Twine' was featured in a Calvin Klein commercial.
Jeff Parker dropped out of the Berklee College of Boston just before graduation.
John McEntire nearly finished his Electronic Music studies at Oberlin College, but failed a required exam.

Why they might not be annoying:

They may be the most successful instrumental rock band in recent decades.
Prior to the group's success, some of the members were in sought-after indie rock bands such as Slint, Palace Brothers, Eleventh Dream Day and the Poster Children.
Their critically-acclaimed music is a mix of punk rock, jazz, 20th-century minimalism, electronica and Latin rhythms.
Their live performances are energetic, and the members often trade instruments.
They were a backing band for Brazilian musician Tom Ze on his world tour (1999).
They've always managed to have a non-caucasian guitarist. Jeff Parker is black, Bundy Brown is half-Korean and Dave Pajo is Filipino.
Brown went on to be a paramedic.
Pajo went on to form Papa M, and he played in the short-lived Zwan.
McEntire is a renown record producer, and owns a recording studio called Soma.
