The Resume

    (October 1, 1965- )
    Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay (2013)
Wrote screenplays for '12 Years a Slave,' 'U Turn,' 'Cold Around the Heart,' 'Three Kings,' and 'Undercover Brother'

Why he might be annoying:

He wrote an op-ed that resulted in HBO Max briefly pulling 'Gone With the Wind' from its lineup.
The backlash got to be so intense that HBO Max announced their intention to reinsert the film but with an advisory warning less than a week later.
He has been accused of fat shaming on several occasions.
He said: 'Old white guys can be a funny bunch, can't they? The same anti-same-sex marriage, anti-affirmative action cadre can flower into the biggest supporters of 'equality' the minute they get a whiff of minority empowerment.'
He chose financial core status with the Writers Guild of America and continued working during the writers' strike of 2007 (that got him labelled a scab by colleagues).

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a huge comic book fan.
His dad was an ophthalmologist and his mom was a special education teacher.
He briefly attempted a career in stand-up comedy, appearing on Johnny Carson and David Letterman.
His first novel, Stray Dogs, was adapted into a movie by Oliver Stone, who hired him to do the screenplay.
His documentary 'Let it Fall' saw a resurgence in popularity following the George Floyd police brutality protests.
He became only the second African-American to win the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar.
He was temporarily blackballed by the Writers Guild for choosing to work during the strike.
