Juror

The Resume

    (1952- )
    Resident of South-Central Los Angeles
    Phone company salesman, marketing representative
Former member of The Black Panthers
Juror #6 in the O.J. Simpson murder trial (former alternate juror)
Famously raised his left arm in a clenched fist salute to Simpson as the panel left the courtroom following the reading of the verdict
Portrayed by P.L. Brown in 'The People vs. OJ: American Crime Story' (2016)

Why he might be annoying:

It was leaked to USA Today that he 'thought Simpson was a good football player.'
He attested to believing that Mark Fuhrman had planted 'the bloody glove' to frame OJ, after hearing the tape of Fuhrman reading a script that included the word 'nigger.'
When a Washington Post reporter asked him a question as to what he thought of the Marcia Clark-Christopher Darden prosecution, after the trial was concluded, he blurted 'garbage in, garbage out!'
His affiliation with the Black Panthers should have been grounds to dismiss him, but according to Jeffery Toobin, 'prosecutors didn’t even exercise all twenty of their peremptory challenges.'
In addition to the 'Black Power' salute, he also winked and smiled at Simpson, prior to leaving the courtroom.
He raised his fist to show solidarity with OJ and the black community but claimed race had no factor in his final decision.
The fist-raising was one of the most talked about aspects of the verdict reading, but with no cameras allowed to capture the jury, no footage exists of him doing it.
Years after the verdict, he continued to maintain that he hadn't made a mistake and that he believed OJ was really innocent -- even telling Piers Morgan that he had 'no alternative' but to vote not guilty.

Why he might not be annoying:

Marcia Clark had the opportunity to dismiss him but naively chose not to.
He was not on the initial jury, but one of the 10 backups who eventually found himself becoming a juror after the numerous dismissals over the course of the trial.
When he was asked what he meant by clenching his fist in the courtroom he responded 'Man, its all over! Have Fun! Go get your kids! Enjoy!'
He felt good about the verdict, but admitted to sympathizing with Nicole Brown's family, saying 'my heart goes out to them.'
When he was asked about the 1989 police audio of Nicole Brown screaming 'he will kill me,' he admitted that it may have swayed him to vote guilty had he heard it (it would have provided a motive).
He talked about being sequestered in a trial that was originally expected to last two months but lasted for nine (during which time he was rushed to the hospital with an unspecified illness, returning to the panel only after getting clearance from his doctor).
