Why he might be annoying:

He was known for his unbelievably slow tempos.
He was a notorious horn-dog and womanizer.
He insisted on being called ‘Dr. Klemperer.’
He was mentally unbalanced.
He would disappear after concerts and be found in the gutter.
He abandoned his wife and went on a ‘Thelma and Louise’ style road trip across the U.S., ringing up debts along the way.
He was eventually arrested.
His daughter had to clean up all his crazy messes.
He once fell asleep smoking a pipe, then burned himself trying to put the fire out with whiskey.

Why he might not be annoying:

His mental problems were caused by a brain tumor.
He left Germany when the Nazis took over.
He was blacklisted by Joe McCarthy.
He was friends with the great composer Gustav Mahler.
He supported many experimental composers, including Stravinsky, Paul Hindemeth and Arnold Schönberg.
He’s considered one of the greatest 20th-century conductors.
The fruit of his loins was TV’s uproarious Colonel Klink, Werner Klemperer.
