Baseball Player

The Resume

    (March 7, 1960- )
    Batted right, threw right
    Attended Wichita State University
    Drafted second overall in 1981
Played for the Chicago Cubs (1983), Cleveland Indians (1984-1989), San Diego Padres (1990), Toronto Blue Jays (1991-1997), Baltimore Orioles (1998), San Francisco Giants (1998)
    Five-time All-Star (1991-1994, 1996)
Winner of the Silver Slugger Award (1991, 1992)

Why he might be annoying:

He hit above .300 only once, batting for a .302 average in 1986 with the Cleveland Indians.
He was the highest-paid baseball player in 1993 ($5.5 million).
Despite being paid that huge amount of money, he hit an under-whelming .254 during the regular season (1993).
Despite winning the decisive Game Six of the 1993 World Series with a walk-off home run, Carter didn't win the World Series MVP Award (it went to Paul Molitor).
He wasn't a patient hitter, striking out 100+ times in seven seasons.

Why he might not be annoying:

He led all Major League hitters with 121 RBI (1986).
He was the only player in the National League to play in all 162 games (1990).
He had ten 100+ RBI seasons.
He had six 30+ home run seasons.
From 1986 to 1997, he drove in 1, 281 runs, more than Barry Bonds or Cal Ripken, Jr. did in that same period of time.
He clinched the World Series Championship for his Toronto Blue Jays with a walk-off, three-run home run off 'Wild Thing' Mitch Williams (1993).
That home run gave Toronto its second World Championship in as many years.
As of 2006, Joe Carter is only the second man to ever hit a walk-off homer in a title-clinching World Series game.
