U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (April 18, 1980- )
    Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Represents Michigan's 3rd Congressional District (elected in 2010)
Came out in support of Impeachment of President Donald Trump following the release of the Mueller Report's findings (May 2019)
    Republican

Why he might be annoying:

He ran for national office after only a two-year term as a State Rep.
He ran for a House seat riding the wave of Tea Party midterm candidates.
He has been accused of moral and political grandstanding on multiple occasions.
He counted the elite DeVos family among his chief nd early fundraisers (yes, that DeVos family).
His voting record was most notable for his hard-line stance taken against Israel, to the left of even some prominent Democrats.
He tried to force a scaling back of Obamacare/The Affordable Care Act that went farther than even fellow Republicans wanted, prompting one Trump official to call for him to be primaried in 2018.
He has entertained the possibility of a Presidential run, either 2020 or 2024, despite the low probability of actually winning (the last time a President was elected right out of the House was 1880).

Why he might not be annoying:

He's a Star Wars Jedi junkie.
His father is a Palestinian Christian who emigrated to west Michigan and his mother is Syrian.
He has been willing to buck his party and work with Democrats on issues like defunding Planned Parenthood and government surveillance.
He was applauded for his questioning of Michael Cohen during his Congressional testimony, leading some Democrats to laud him as 'a hero.'
He is transparent about his voting record - rarely missing a House vote and explaining his reasons behind each decision on his office website.
He has clashed with Donald Trump and his administration on several occasions prior to his call for impeachment.
He has taken a great deal of flak from his own party and his constituents for his position (the President himself called him 'a loser').
