He is a one hit wonder.
With just one hit under his belt he had the nerve to record a 'Golden Classics' album.
The song encouraged hitchhiking and promoted promiscuous behavior between strangers.
The song inspired a cheesy, hastily filmed teen comedy movie 'The Van' with a relatively unknown Danny Devito (1977).

'Chevy Van' was a #5 smash on the Billboard chart (May 1975). It sold more than 3 million singles.
Van sales soared the year after the song hit.
He wrote songs for Waylon Jennings, Sammy Kershaw and Conway Twitty.
His song 'America' was sung by Jennings on national TV in a ceremony honoring the restoration of the Statue of Liberty (1985).
