The Resume

    (September 13, 1928-May 19, 2018)
    Born in New Castle, Indiana
    Birth name was Robert Clark
Best known for his paintings, prints and sculptures of the word ‘LOVE’

Why he might be annoying:

His contribution to the 1964 New York World’s Fair, a flashing neon sign of the word ‘EAT,’ had to be removed because too many attendees thought it marked the location of a restaurant.
He starred in an Andy Warhol film in which he ate mushrooms for 45 minutes.
His ‘LOVE’ and its endless knockoffs were ubiquitous in the late 1960s.
He said, ‘I was the least Pop of the Pop Artists.’

Why he might not be annoying:

By age 17, he had lived in 21 different homes.
He decided not to disrupt the original ‘LOVE’ image with his signature or a copyright notice, which left him without legal protection when imitators began churning out copies.
When the US Postal Service used his ‘LOVE’ on a Valentine’s Day stamp, over 300 million sold, making it the best-selling commemorative stamp to that date (1973).
