The Resume

    (April 11, 1925-March 25, 1965)
Participated in the Selma to Montgomery march to protest racial injustice in Alabama
Shot to death by members of the Ku Klux Klan at age 39
Subject of the books 'Murder on the Highway: The Viola Liuzzo Story' by Beatrice Siegel (1994), 'From Selma to Sorrow: The Life and Death of Viola Liuzzo' by Mary Stanton (1998) and 'The Informant: The FBI, the Ku Klux Klan, and the Murder of Viola Liuzzo' by Gary May (2005)

Why she might be annoying:

She was a high school drop-out.
She was thrice married, the first coming at age 16 for one day.
As part of a protest to raise the high school drop-out age she kept two of her kids out of school for a time, was fined $50 and put on a year's probation.
She ignored the concerns that she could be killed, stating: 'I want to be part of it.'
Because her third husband was a Teamsters Union big shot, Jimmy Hoffa used her funeral as a photo op.

Why she might not be annoying:

She found work in Detroit during World War II as part of the 'Rosie the Riviter' movement.
She employed her African-American friend Sarah Evans as nanny while she worked and was later introduced to friends at the local NAACP chapter.
While volunteering to drive a young protester back home, four KKK members saw her with the black teen, overtook her car and opened fire.
Though the teen was uninjured, she took two bullets to the head and died instantly.
Three of the four were not convicted of her murder but of violating her civil rights and given light jail sentences.
The fourth was an FBI mole who was acquitted.
The FBI tried to discredit her with a smear campaign that included her being a Communist who abandoned her kids to have sex with men of the Civil Rights movement.
Martin Luther King, Jr. attended her funeral and stated, 'If physical death is the price some must pay to save us and our white brothers from eternal death of the spirit, then no sacrifice could be more redemptive.'
