Wrote 'The Dance' and 'My Life'

Because of the sensuality of her dances and her revealing costumes, her dances initially shocked American audiences (Of course, Europeans weren't fazed one bit).
She was fond of wearing large scarves. One day, one of the scarves became entangled in one of the wheels of the car that she was riding in, and either strangled her or broke her neck (accounts vary).

She began giving dancing lessons at fourteen.
She spent most of her youth on the verge of starvation.
Two of her children died young.
She was a political activist, and fought for social reforms.
She revolutionized dance in the early part of the 20th century.
She once exposed her breasts to her audience and said, 'Nudity is truth, it is beauty, it is art,' after which she was chased out of the hall.
