    He had a bad temper.
    He was a vocal political activist in the 1960’s.
    When he got old, he liked to ramble in interviews.
    ‘Catch-22’ wasn’t originally a hit in the U.S., and only took off when it was published in Britain.
    His other books never lived up to its success.
    He grew up poor.
    He served as an Air Force bombardier during World War II.
    ‘Catch-22’ is considered a satirical masterpiece.
    Many critics call it the finest novel ever written about Word War II.
    Although the book harshly criticizes the American military, it has a huge following among servicemen.
    He influenced Kurt Vonnegut, Thomas Pynchon and the TV series ‘M*A*S*H.’
    The term ‘Catch-22’ has become an established part of the English language.
    He said: ‘When I read something saying I’ve not done anything as good as ‘Catch-22,’ I’m tempted to reply, Who has?’
