Why he might be annoying:

His promising military career came to an end after he was court martialed for violating the 96th Article of War by publishing an open letter criticizing Army command (1922).
He left DC Comics before either of its two signature characters, Superman and Batman, made their debuts.
His publishing venture left him chronically short of cash.
Comic creator Sheldon Mayer quipped about his status as a comics pioneer, ‘[He] was also the first to stiff an artist for his check.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He served under General John J. Pershing in Mexico and the Philippines and during World War I.
He published the first comic books to consist of all-new material instead of reprints of newspaper comics.
He brought future Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster to DC Comics.
One of his partners and creditors, Harry Donenfeld, sent him and his wife on a cruise to the Caribbean, then took advantage of his absence to force National Allied Publications into bankruptcy court followed by a quick purchase of its assets (1938).
