Musician
    (September 5, 1939-January 19, 2008)
    Born in San Diego, California
Member of The Kingston Trio (1961-67), replacing founding member Dave Guard
As a solo artist recorded 'Gold'
Died of a stroke and brain aneurysm in San Diego at age 68
As a solo artist he was a one hit wonder.
As a 10-year-old child prodigy, he composed his first tune, titled 'Shrunken Head Boogie.'
His first two bands were called Johnny Stewart & the Furies and The Woodsmen.
'Gold' was huge because he secured the services of Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, who were on fire at the time.
Nearly all of his solo efforts were critically praised but commercial disappointments.
He is not the Jon Stewart that people talk about nowadays.
Before joining The Kingston Trio, he was in another folk band, The Cumberland Three, with John Montgomery and Gil Robbins (father of Tim Robbins).
He was hand picked by the two remaining Trio members to replace Guard.
He wrote The Monkees huge smash hit 'Daydream Believer.'
Other artists who have recorded his songs include Joan Baez, Rosanne Cash and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
His brother was a member of the folk rock group, We Five.
'Gold' reached #5 on Billboard's Singles chart in 1979 and sold over a million units.
In the 2000s, he formed the Trio Fantasy Camp in Scottsdale, Arizona, with former Trio member Nick Reynolds (and occasionally Bob Shane), where fans could perform for and with the band.
Shortly before his death, he had been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.
