Why he might be annoying:

He often disagreed with President Lincoln on various issues.
Some conspiracy theories state that he, not John Wilkes Booth, was the mastermind of Lincoln's assassination.
He was at the very center of the battle to impeach President Johnson from office.
After being fired by Johnson, he declared his job was protected under the Tenure of Office Act and shielded himself in the War Department until the end of Johnson's failed impeachment attempt.
He had a huge beard.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was very strongly opposed to slavery.
He was one of the top Union leaders during the American Civil War.
He suffered from asthma for most of his life.
He saw his lifelong wish to be on the Supreme Court come true, only to die four days after being appointed.
At Lincoln's deathbed, he delivered the memorable lines, 'Now he belongs to the ages,' as Lincoln took his final breaths (April 15, 1865).
