One writer said he was ‘no more intelligent at thirty than on the day of his birth.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He was probably a microcephalic (pinhead).
It was said his skull was ‘no bigger than an orange.’
Some claim he was witty and mocked the pompous French aristocrats he served.
According to the story, he got his payback when Francis I raped his daughter.
Some say all the stuff about raping is pure invention.
Victor Hugo turned his story into a play, and Giuseppe Verdi turned the play into a great opera, ‘Rigoletto.’
