World Leader

The Resume

    (May 21, 1930-March 20, 2015)
    Born in Toorak, Victoria, Australia
Birth name was John Malcolm Fraser
Member of Parliament for Wannon (1955-83)
Minister for Education and Science (1968-69,1971-72)
    Minister for Defense (1969-71)
Leader of the Liberal Party (1975-83)
    Prime Minister of Australia (1975-83)

Why he might be annoying:

He publicly declared his support for Liberal Party leader Billy Snedden, then challenged him for the leadership position.
As opposition leader, he engineered a constitutional crisis by refusing to approve the government's budget, eventually leading to the Governor-General controversially dismissing Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and replacing him with Fraser.
In public appearances, he tended to come off as aloof, arrogant and awkward.
His successor as Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, said, 'He won the votes of the Australian electorate, but not their hearts.'
During a tour of the US, he wound up without his trousers in the lobby of the Admiral Benbow Inn, a seedy Memphis motel (October 14, 1986). Political opponents suggested he had solicited a prostitute, who had stolen his pants and wallet.

Why he might not be annoying:

He led the Liberal-Country Party coalition to win a 55-seat majority in Parliament, the largest in Australian history (1975).
He was a staunch opponent of apartheid and played an important role in negotiating the end of white-minority rule in Zimbabwe.
His government ended whaling in Australian waters and established the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
He was married to Tammie Beggs for 59 years.
His wife stood by him during the Memphis trousers incident, suggesting he had been the victim of a practical joke by other members of the Australian delegation.
