Why he might be annoying:

    He was twice divorced.
At one point he was a critic for TV Guide.
He named the cat he saved on Christmas Eve 1977 (that started his animals rights crusade) Polar Bear.
He had a dry wit, quoting 'A good family, it seems, is one that used to be better,' 'The facts of life are very stubborn things,' and 'I can't take a well-tanned person seriously.'
He's buried on the grounds of his ranch next to his cats.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served as a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He became the youngest ever editor of the Saturday Evening Post.
Dedicating his life to animals, among his efforts were saving the burros of the Grand Canyon and the goats of San Clemente Island.
For his campaign against fur clothing, he secured the services of stars Mary Tyler Moore, Angie Dickinson and great friend Doris Day.
He bought the first boat used by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society founder Paul Watson, used to thwart Japanese whaling fleets.
His sanctuary takes in all kinds of abused and neglected animals - from cats and dogs to elephants and chimpanzees.
His favorite cat quote was 'anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of the human mind.'
