The Resume

    (1510-September 22, 1554)
    Born in Salamanca, Spain
Birth name was Francisco Vásquez de Coronado
Governor of the Kingdom of Nueva Galicia, New Spain (1538 - 1544)
Spanish Conquistador; led an expedition from Mexico through parts of southwestern North America, now present-day Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas (1540 - 1542)
First explorer to make contact with the Zuñi, Hopi, and the Pueblo Indians

Why he might be annoying:

He owned slaves (and put down a major slave rebellion at the age of 28).
He led an expedition on the basis of false rumors that gold existed in northern Mexico (the fabled seven Golden Cities of Cibola).
He was led on a wild goose chase throughout the Southwest by his Indian guide, who hoped to lose them in the woods (he eventually ordered him to be strangled to death).
His expedition was dismissed as a failure by the Spanish royalty and leaders because he did not find the treasures.
His expedition forced him into bankruptcy.
He committed acts of ethnic cleansing against the Pueblo Indians and other indigenous tribes.
He and his field master were charged with War Crimes against the Pueblo during the Tiguex War.
He was exonerated of guilt on most charges, but was stripped of his title and office, anyway, due to the disgrace (1544).
He died before the chronicle of his expedition was published.
    He was a loser.

Why he might not be annoying:

He led the most substantive exploration of the North American interior to that point.
In a case of injury added to insult, he was badly injured in a fall from his horse, shortly before his return to New Spain.
He was almost killed by a Zuni arrow during a battle in 1540 (he was also badly injured by a stone which was thrown at him).
    He discovered the Grand Canyon.
He discovered the Colorado Plateau and the Colorado River.
'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' centers on an artifact allegedly given to him by Hernan Cortes, 'The Cross of Coronado.'
