    He is known in media circles as being cheap.
    Even behind the scenes, rarely are people hired that aren't African-American.
    The very name of his network has repeatedly led to uncomfortable questions.
    His network has been cited for promoting negative stereotypes, particularly with regard to some videos shown on BET.
    His name is Bob, and the name of his team is the Bobcats.
    He is the first African-American to be the principal owner of a North American major-league sports franchise.
    In the beginning, people repeatedly told him his network would be a failure.
    When he sold to Viacom in 1999, he pocketed $2.3 billion (most people only wish they could fail like that).
    BET is now one of the strongest channels on cable, reaching over 67 million viewers.
    In 1991, BET became the first black-controlled company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
    He earned a master's degree in public administration at Princeton.
