The Resume

    (November 7, 1921-March 21, 2014)
    Born in Bettendorf, Iowa
Defeated Ben Hogan in a playoff to win the US Open (1955)
Won the PGA Seniors Championship (1979)

Why he might be annoying:

Besides the '55 US Open, he won only two other PGA Tour events in his entire career.
While shaving in his hotel room the morning of the last two rounds of the 1955 US Open, he heard a voice coming from the mirror, saying 'Jack, you are going to win the Open.' (He kept quiet about the event for decades.)
He said, 'It has always been thought of as the U.S. Open that Ben Hogan lost, not the one Jack Fleck won. I never felt I was given credit for how well I played.'
He wanted to name his son Snead Hogan Fleck, but his wife objected.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served as a quartermaster in the US Navy during World War II.
His victory over Hogan to win the 1955 US Open is considered one of the all-time great sports upsets.
He had to come back from a first-round deficit of nine strokes, setting a US Open record.
He was openly religious, but refused to pray for victory.
