He flew bombing missions for the United States during World War II.
He became an anti-war advocate due to his experiences in World War II.
He was an active member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the Civil Rights Movement.
He said: 'History can be a powerful force for social change.'
He said: 'Whoever controls the past controls the future.'
He looks at history from a different point of view than is written in most text books.
