Made news in 2009 after Mila the beluga whale saved her from drowning
She participated in a free diving contest where players dive to the bottom of a 20-foot deep pool and stay submerged for as long as possible.
To make things worse, the water was very frigid to mimic the arctic temperatures beluga whales are used to in their natural environment.
She owes her life to a a whale.
Animal rights advocates use the story to argue against whale hunting.
In her terrifying moments at the bottom of the pool, she was sure she was going to die.
The lack of oxygen and chilling water temperatures paralyzed her legs as she was diving.
People supervising the event and audience members did not realize she was in trouble but Mila surely noticed.
Mila, who sensed her difficulty and used her mouth and nose to push the diver back up to the surface, saved her life.
She recalls feeling a mysterious force pushing her upwards towards the water surface and feels thankful towards the whale.
