Why he might be annoying
He frequently wears a Spider-Man costume for his climbs.
He has gone commercial: He is frequently paid to scale buildings for publicity stunts.
He has also gone political: He climbed the HQ of French oil company Total SA as a protest against the war in Iraq.
His attempt to climb the Petronas Towers, at the time the world's tallest building, was thwarted at the 60th floor, 28 short of the top (1997).
He fell 25 feet while teaching students how to rely on their legs, broke both his wrists, went into a coma and was hospitalized for two months (2005).
Why he might not be annoying
He began climbing buildings at age 12 after he was locked out of the family's eighth-floor apartment.
At age 20, he fell 50 feet while rappelling, fractured both forearms, his pelvis and his nose, was in a coma for five days and was partially paralyzed.
Doctors told him he would never climb again, but he returned to climbing in only six months.
He calls his three children immediately after he reaches the top of a building.
