Why he might be annoying
He killed a man for insulting his attire. 'Thou Scot, abide; what devil clothed thee in so gay a garment?'
He once hid from the authorities disguised as a woman.
While a hero to some, technically he was a criminal.
He was defeated at Falkirk and lost 10,000 men.
The movie 'Braveheart' was terribly inaccurate.
He may have had a daughter out of wedlock.
Why he might not be annoying
He is considered 'Scotland's greatest hero.'
During a time when few people could even read, he spoke three languages.
His father was killed when he was 19.
He once defeated an armed swordsman with a fishing pole.
His girlfriend was murdered.
He united the feuding Scottish Clans for a common cause.
Leading a group of farmers, he defeated the English army while outnumbered three to one (1297).
He was betrayed and captured on August 5, 1305.
He was offered a painless execution if he would publicly swear allegiance to the King. He refused.
He was strung up by the neck, gutted (while alive), his entrails burned in front of him, and then decapitated.
His brutal execution backfired on King Edward I and sparked more rebellions under Robert the Bruce. (1306)
