    When 'Gummo' premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, much of the audience walked out during an early scene of a cat being drowned.
    Critic Janet Maslin called 'Gummo' the 'worst film of the year.'
    He appeared in blackface as O. J. Simpson for a video project called 'The Devil, The Sinner and His Journey.'
    He was banned from 'The Late Show with David Letterman' after shoving Meryl Streep in the green room (1998).
    He recorded a CD, 'SSAB Songs' (1999), and said, 'I think it's the kind of album I'd only listen to once.'
    'Gummo' won awards at the Venice Film Festival and Rotterdam International Film Festival.
    Roger Ebert said he 'belongs on the list with Godard, Cassavetes, Herzog, Warhol, Tarkovsky, Brakhage and others who smash conventional movies and rearrange the pieces.'
    His documentary 'Above the Below' actually made David Blaine sitting in a plexiglass box look interesting.
