Why he might be annoying:

    He was expelled from France and Switzerland for preaching his reformed Christian doctrines.
    As a priest he married a nun.
    He preached the idea of pre-destination. Pre-destination is that belief that every event in a person's life as well as their place in the afterlife has already been determined by God.
    He reorganized the city of Geneva and founded a theocracy that controlled most of the city's daily life.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He founded the University of Geneva.
    He inspired the name of the character 'Calvin' in the Bill Watterson comic strip 'Calvin and Hobbes.'
