The Resume

    (1850- )
    Population: 2,805 (2016)
    Area: 1.58 sq miles
Famous as the hometown of James Dean

Why Fairmount, Indiana might be annoying:

It is a pilgrimage site among Deaners and Deaniacs.
It was Ku Klux Klan holdover territory throughout the 1920s.
In terms of diversity, less than two percent of its population is minority.
For a town that markets its association with James Dean so aggressively, the actor's attitude towards it seemed pretty ambivalent at times (in one poem, he wrote 'My town thrives on dangerous bigotry/My town's big in the sens of idolatry').

Why Fairmount, Indiana might not be annoying:

    It was settled by Quakers.
It is home to Garfield creator Jim Davis.
It has a very tight knit community.
It is a much nicer place to visit than Graceland.
It was the site of James Dean's famous Life Magazine photo session, which included the young actor posing in a coffin at the local funeral home (ironically, he would be buried at Fairmount's local Park Cemetary less than a year later).
The local funeral home would later become the James Dean Gallery, which attracts 200,000 visitors a year.
Morrissey filmed the music video for his 'Suedehead,' inspired by James Dean, in the town.
