Why she might be annoying
She is secretive about her date of birth.
Although the composers and their estates made millions in royalties with the carioca, she herself received nothing out of it.
When she opened a clothing boutique under the name ‘Girl from Ipanema,' the heirs of the composers successfully threatened her with a lawsuit. She was forced to use another name.
Curiously, they didn't get angry about the title of her website (‘Garota de Ipanema,' the original title, in Portuguese).
Her website is written almost exclusively in Portuguese.
Why she might not be annoying
She was a teenager at the time the song was composed.
Although the heirs didn't appreciate her use of the title, she says she never had a quarrel with the original composers (Antonio Carlos ‘Tom' Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes).
Her son suffered brain damage as a child.
She and daughter Ticiane appeared together in a 2003 Playboy shoot.
She appeared in the first episode of the second Amazing Race season as part of a Detour clue — but only one team took her option.
