He became injury prone in the later stages of his career.
Despite signing a lucrative contract with the Tigers, he played a total of 87 games in the final three years.
His contract was viewed as another 'deadball' contract in the Randy Smith era.
He led the American League in strikeouts (1992).

He was a quality defensive infielder in his prime.
He began receiving media attention shortly after being traded to Kansas City.
He recorded career highs in all categories during his year and a half stint with the Royals.
