U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (November 5, 1942- )
    Born in Miami, Florida
Birth name is Frederica Patricia Smith
    Represents Florida's 24th district (2011- )
    Democrat

Why she might be annoying:

She appeared on Real Housewives of Atlanta.
She rarely makes public appearances (off of the House floor) without her trademark oversized bedazzled cowgirl hats (of which she owns several hundred).
Her penchant for lavish headwear has led her to push for Congress to lift its ban on head coverings during House sessions.
She has been accused of commandeering nonpartisan events as a means of self promotion.
She was accused of hampering the prosecution during the George Zimmerman trial with several incendiary remarks directed at the defendant, as well as criticism of the Sanford police department's handling of the case (2012).
She was accused of misrepresenting several comments made by President Donald Trump to a gold star widow that her late husband 'knew what he signed up for' (2017).
She announced her intention to boycott President Trump's State of the Union address, citing several (alleged) comments he made regarding African countries being 'shit holes' (Jan. 2018).

Why she might not be annoying:

She is a widow with three children.
She was an elementary school principal.
She is friends with Phaedra Parks.
She was an early backer of the #BringBackOurGirls initiative in 2014.
She was a lifelong friend of Trayvon Martin's family and vocally criticized the 'Stand Your Ground' law after the 2013 verdict.
She founded the 5000 Role Models program to reduce the dropout rate in her state.
She was such an proponent of anti-bullying initiatives that a local newspaper nicknamed her 'the Haze Buster.'
She was attacked by General John F. Kelly who falsely accused of politicizing a 2015 dedication ceremony for an FBI building.
She is conflated/confused with Maxine Waters by right wing provocateurs despite having little in common with the Congresswoman other than the obvious (both black women).
