The Resume

    (January 17, 1945-April 12, 1982)
    Born in Brookline, Massachusetts
Birth name was Leonard Joel Baker
Best known for the role of Larry Lapinsky in 'Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976)'
Won a Tony Award for the play 'I Love My Wife' (1977)
Acted in 'The Hospital (1971),' 'The Paper Chase (1973),' and 'Malatesta's Carnival of Blood (1973)'

Why he might be annoying:

    He was knob-kneed.
    He resembled Roberto Benigni.
He liked to call himself 'a skinny, silly shlump.'
He was typecast as offbeat, goofy and shifty characters - usually Italian or Jewish.
He died before he reached his full potential (not really his fault, but still).

Why he might not be annoying:

He began his career in regional theater.
He was a vocal proponent for pay equity for actresses.
He scored a Golden Globe nomination for 'Next Stop, Greenwich Village.'
His apartment was burglarized on the opening night of 'I Love My Wife' (his television set and Bar Mitzvah ring were stolen).
He was close friends with Paul Mazursky and Leonard Nimoy.
His career was cut short after he was diagnosed with a mysterious form of thyroid cancer (which some of his friends have since claimed was actually complications from HIV-AIDS).
He said: 'There was a time when my nose bothered me. In my adolescence, I thought, "What am I stuck with here?" It seemed to me that the only thing growing on my body was my nose. I went through an awkward stage when I felt out of place. Now I'm very happy with the nose and this body and who I am.'
