    His ex-girlfriend (Mary Woodson) broke into his home while he was taking a bath. She poured boiling grits on him, causing second degree burns to his stomach, back and arm. Mary Woodson then committed suicide by shooting herself (October 1974).
    After the incident, he found God and became a Reverend at a Memphis Tennessee Church.
    He used to be a drug addict.
    His autobiography talks about a hooker named Juanita that he hooked up with in Michigan.
    He fell off the stage during a concert in Cincinnati Ohio (1979).

    'Lets Stay Together' was number one for nine weeks the R&B charts and the pop charts.
