Why he might be annoying:

He was grossly overweight.
He only played one male role in his entire acting career.
He lowered himself to the basest of levels in some of his films, including eating real dog droppings in 'Pink Flamingos.'
He ran away from home and kept himself hidden from his mother, until she tracked him down near the end of his life.
His friend Bernard Jay provided a very unflattering portrait of him in his biography 'Not Simply Divine.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He met with enormous success as an actor in cult films.
He was remarkably graceful considering his weight and could perform stunts on a trampoline while in drag.
He was completely uninhibited throughout his life.
His mother Frances Milstead provided a very loving and understanding portrait of him in her biography 'My Son Divine.'
He died suddenly in his sleep at age 42.
He was meant to have a role as Peg's mother on 'Married With Children' at the time of his death, and out of respect to him the role was relegated to an off screen voice.
