The Resume

    (January 6, 1883-April 10, 1931)
    Born in Bsharri, Lebanon
Birth name was Gibran Khalil Gibran
    Poet, essayist, painter and sculptor
Best-known work was ‘The Prophet’ (1923)

Why he might be annoying:

He changed the spelling of his name to make it more euphonious.
He was financially supported by a series of female devotees, or ‘deathless admirers.’
’The Prophet’ became a favorite of the 60s counterculture and the New Age movement.
Richard Harris recorded a musical adaptation of ‘The Prophet’ (1974).
His will leaving the royalties from his writings to his hometown led to intrigue, embezzlement and murder.

Why he might not be annoying:

Auguste Rodin called him ‘the William Blake of the 20th century.’
His line ‘Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it so the other half may reach you’ was adapted by John Lennon for the Beatles song ‘Julia.’
After the Lebanese government assumed management of his estate, the $1 million a year brought in by his writings finally benefited his hometown by funding new schools, clinics and student scholarships.
