Why he might be annoying:

A dispute with WABC TV caused him to move his show to WOR TV (1962).
He is boring and lacks personality.
His statements about show business are not always accurate.
He claims that Bud Abbott was a lion tamer and a race car driver before meeting Lou Costello. Bud Abbott was an epileptic, hence he couldn't drive a car or work with wild animals.
He claimed Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner's brother Keith Hefner played 'Tommy Seven the Clown' and was dead. Although Keith did appear on 'The Tommy Seven Show' he did not play Tommy Seven and was alive at the time.
He was known to interrupt his guests with inane chatter such as 'What do you hear from Elvis' or 'This man eats more for breakfast than you do. Boss!.'
Most of the time the guests on his shows were 'nobodies' who were barely in show business.
He constantly hawked Martin's Paint, a local New York paint and hardware store.

Why he might not be annoying:

His interest in nostalgia began when his mom bought him a record player and some old records.
Writing for his school newspaper he interviewed George M. Cohan.
A guest on his show, author Fanny Hurst, gave him the rights to use 'Memory Lane,' a chapter title from her book 'The Book was Calda Lilly.'
Uncle Floyd good naturedly mock him on Uncle Floyd's show.
A Broadway restaurant was named in his honor: 'The Joe Franklin Memory Lane Restaurant.'
Because just about anyone could get on his show, many entertainers were given their first TV exposure there. These include Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis, Jr., Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Bill Cosby and Woody Allen.
