Why he might be annoying:

He formed a harmony group called The Delphis that went nowhere.
After 'Bikini' became a hit, he tried a follow-up novelty song, 'Lopsided, Overloaded, and It Wiggled When I Rode It,' which bombed.
He was in Dallas with Dick Clark's 'Caravan of Stars' when JFK was assassinated, and wrote a song about it called 'Mail Order Gun.'
He's been with five different record labels.
He has been dismissed by rock purists as a novelty tune/bubblegum music artist.

Why he might not be annoying:

'Bikini' hit #1 on Billboard's Singles chart in 1960, selling over two million units and making him a star at age 16.
'Sealed with a Kiss' hit #3 in both the U.S. and the U.K. in 1962, and a 1975 reissue of the tune reached #7 in the U.K.
'Gypsy Woman' hit #3 in 1970, giving him three Top 10 hits and a platinum plus two gold records.
He's worked with musicians Del Shannon, J.J. Cale, Leon Russell and Allen Toussaint.
He is a cousin by marriage of the late Larry Fine (of 'Three Stooges fame).
He's produced several sports TV documentaries, including 2001's 'Do You Believe in Miracles? The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team.'
