Why they might be annoying
They primarily recorded R&B music, but are best known for their pop/rock songs.
Lead vocalist Paul Jones left at the height of the band’s popularity (1966).
Manfred Mann is the name of the band, as well as the stage name of the keyboard player.
They are often confused with the keyboardist’s later group, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band.
Their three biggest stateside hits were cover versions of previously recorded songs.
After reforming, they adopted the name ‘The Manfreds’ to avoid legal conflicts with their former keyboardist.
Why they might not be annoying
They combined elements of R&B, jazz, pop and psychedelic rock in their music.
They drew comparisons to other British Invasion acts such as The Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Their interpretations of various Bob Dylan songs were critically acclaimed.
Their song ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’ hit #1 on the US and UK pop charts.
