The Resume

    ( -January 6, 2005)
    Michael (October 7, 1984-January 6, 2005); Denver, Colorado
    Janelle (March 23, 1984-January 6, 2005); Grand Island, Nebraska
While high on methamphetamine, they became disoriented in a blizzard
Both died in Sarpy County, Nebraska

Why they might be annoying:

They chose to use an illegal drug that contributed to their deaths.
While lost, they thought they were near their apartment in Omaha but were actually near a dredging company 120 miles away.
In their drug induced state, they wandered in a blizzard, leaving behind coats in their truck which had half a tank of gas and a heater.
They found refuge in a shack on the dredging company property but later wandered back into the storm.
They made confusing and frustrating calls to 911 dispatchers who were trying to work around the couple's confusion and hallucinations.
They were lost in an area too far away for the best cell phone tracking system to locate them.
Their situation later caused a large manhunt to form which found Michael dead of hypothermia one day later and Janelle's snow covered body six days later.
Methamphetamine and marijuana were found in the bodies during autopsies.
Michael did not graduate high school.

Why they might not be annoying:

They may not have realized that methamphetamine tends to have a higher and longer potency rate in the body than other hard drugs.
Despite being high they tried to help themselves out of trouble by calling 911.
Their cell calls bounced off different towers and the 911 GPS tracking system in their area was low quality which hampered 911 tracing efforts.
Janelle was active and successful in high school and college.
They were in a loving and commited relationship.
Their ordeal has become the topic of anti- drug campaigns and public service announcements.
