Why he might be annoying:

He was absent without proper authority and used military property without consent (1866).
For this, he was court martial and suspended from rank for one year (October 11, 1867).
He unwittingly led his troops into a massacre at Little Bighorn when he under estimated the number of Sioux they would fight (June 25, 1876).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a major general of Union volunteers during the Civil War. He fought with much success in most of the final battles.
He is an icon in American history.
