Why he might be annoying
He has terrorized local villagers and fishermen for decades.
Crocodile expert Patrick Faye believes he kills for pleasure.
An over-the-top feature film ‘Primeval’ (2007)presents him as a serial killer.
When shot at with assault rifles, he allegedly swallowed the bullets.
He also frightens other crocodiles, who give up their territory to him.
He gets particularly aggressive during mating season.
Civil strife in Burundi has made it particularly difficult to capture him.
Burundians nicknamed a hated president after him.
Why he might not be annoying
His number of human victims is probably exaggerated.
Many zoologists are skeptical of claims he deliberately hunts people.
He was smart enough to avoid a giant trap set for him in 2002.
If captured, he will live in a zoo and may bring Burundi much needed revenue.
There are plans to mate him, as his superior genes could replenish an endangered crocodile population.
He is probably the biggest fresh water crocodile of all time.
He has many scars from bullets.
Faye, who named him ‘Gustave,’ admits that he has a bizarre affection for him, saying, ‘We are survivors and soul mates.’
