Why he might be annoying
His story of his journey from anti-Catholic protestant fundamentalist to Catholic apologist and evangelist varies greatly from telling to telling.
He still dresses like a fundamentalist preacher, i.e. badly.
He has terrible hair.
His PhD dissertation was 700 pages long!
Why he might not be annoying
He's been married over 30 years and has six children.
His journey and popularity are due to his willingness to listen to other points of view and a desire to learn the truth no matter where it might lead.
When he first considered joining the Catholic Church, a (soon to be former) friend advised his wife to divorce him.
He's a gentlemanly and outstanding debater.
His book and dvd sales are in the millions.
He's hosted several very popular series on EWTN.
He ticks off Catholic priests and bishops who are mad the Catholic laity turn to him for the guidance/information they are too dumb and/or lazy to provide for the laity themselves.
He really ticks off anti-Catholic fundamentalists who consider him a traitor and smear him every chance they get.
He also ticks off cafeteria Catholics who hate his defense of Catholic orthodoxy and secular anti-Catholics for the same reason.
